FAQs

Common Questions About
Medicare Part A

What is a Medicare benefit period?
A benefit period starts when you're admitted to a hospital or SNF inpatient and ends when you've been out for 60 consecutive days. Each new benefit period resets your Part A deductible ($1,676 in 2025). Medigap plans can cover this deductible entirely.
Does Part A cover long-term nursing home care?
No — Part A only covers skilled nursing care for up to 100 days following a qualifying hospital stay. For long-term custodial care, Medicaid is the primary payer.
Should I enroll in Part A at 65 even if I'm still working?
Usually yes — it's free for most. But if you contribute to an HSA, enrolling in Medicare stops your ability to make HSA contributions. Call us before your 65th birthday.
Can Medigap cover my Part A costs?
Yes — Medigap Plan G covers the Part A deductible, hospital coinsurance for days 61+, and SNF coinsurance for days 21–100.
